Q&A: Thinking about going to Las Vegas at Christmas. Need to know the best things to do whilst I’m there?

Question by AFHB: Thinking about going to Las Vegas at Christmas. Need to know the best things to do whilst I’m there?
We’re a family of 4 (Mum, Dad, 2 teenage boys) who are looking to do Vegas in December. We’ll be celebrating a birthday whilst where there and need to know the best of the best. Restaurants, activities, shopping, hotels, casinos, tours, helicopter rides. EVERYTHING! Please share anything and everything. Thanks.

You will love Vegas! I went a few Christmases ago and had a blast.

    Things to do:
1.Visit the strip during the day and during the night
    2. Visit the Hoover Dam and take a helicopter ride over the dam and lake mead (around $ 99 per person, but well worth it)
    3. Go shopping at the bigger mall (not the one on the strip, I forget it’s name)
    4. Visit most of the hotels/casinos on the strip. They are beautiful. They do allow kids under 21 in as long as you stay on the strip of carpet in the casino. (you’ll know what i’m taking about when you enter)
    5. See the treasure island show, right outside of treasure island hotel/casino.
    6. Ride all the rides on top of the stratosphere. (roller coaster on a building over 1,000 ft. tall!!!)
    7. Watch the fountains at the Bellagio hotel/casino and then go inside to their bakery and get their gelato. (to die for!)
    8. Take an indoor or outdoor gondola ride in the venetian hotel. It is so much fun!
    9. Go visit the mountains and drive up through there. It is so breath-taking.
    10. Go to the aqaurium inside the Mandilay Bay hotel. You can pet baby sharks and there in a shark tank that surrounds you. Really cool.
    11. Visit Freemont street. Enclosed street with a lot of cute little shops and fun light shows.
    12. Eat at In-n-out burger and fat-burger, they have the best fries and burgers.

Hope you have a great time! Take lots of pictures! Enjoy!

Christmas is a very busy time with lines for everything including meals and shows being sold out. Go to http://www.lasvegasnow.com for links

What to do with teens, a few – Circus Circus Adventure Dome (inside amusement park) – Mandalay Bay Shark Reef – Mirage Dolphin Reserve plus Signfreid & Roy’s Secret Garden (lions, tigers) – NYNY Scream rollercoaster – Stratospher 101 stories up 3 rides – Hilton Star Trek Experience (2 virtual rides and memorabilia) – Las Vegas Springs Reserve – Red Rock Canyon Bonnie Springs Ranch – Paris Madame Trousaud’s Wax Museum

I would highly recommend Treasure Island Cirque show Mystere, all good seats and a family affair. This would be a perfect birthday party but get those tickets now.

Remember that the curfew in Vegas are NO one under 18 on Strip without parent and no one under 21 in casino area alone ever except restaurants.

Shopping go to Caesar’s Palace Forum Shops which has 2 free come-alive statute shows and so much more and Fashion Show Mall across from Wynn.

Bring lots of money to gamble with. The ecomony is slowing down for us Vegans. The kids will want to experience the roller coaster at the Sahara, the Indy Car rides there too. The Stratosphere will have more of very rides there. There’s great shopping malls in every hotel and elsewhere and the kids will love it poolside while mom and dad are gambling. Go to the Hard Rock Hotel, The Palms and Mandalay Bay Hotels. You’ve got great restaurants in all the Strip Hotels. You can chose from Emeril’s to Wolfgang Pucks and everything in between. I think the boys are too young for the club scene. You might want to rent a car while here. Much cheaper than taxis everywhere.
